Mochudi Centre Chiefs FC is the new Botswana national champions after clinching the league courtesy of a 3-1 win over Police X1. Goals from Kekaetswe Moloi, Joel Mogorosi and Pontsho Moloi ensured that no team could match Chiefs’ tally of 69 points. Nearest rivals to Chiefs’ claim on the title, Township Rollers suffered a 2-1 defeat to Botswana Defence Forces X1 (BDF ) the same afternoon thus leaving Chiefs to claim their second title in five seasons.

The Police side made life difficult for the title chasing Chiefs who are coached by former Highlanders (Zimbabwean club) and Zimbabwe national team mentor, Madinda Ndlovu. After Kekaetswe gave Chiefs the lead on the 25th minute, the Police side responded with an equalizer scored by their captain, Clarkson Dzimbiri on 50 minutes. Chiefs only managed to restore their lead in the 69th minute through a penalty after national team player Pontsho was fouled in the box. The Police’s resistance then crumbled and Chiefs added a third in the 85th minute through Pontsho. For winning the title Chiefs picked up 1 million PULA (about US$127,500) and the club qualifies to represent the country in the Orange CAF Champions League competition next year

As for Ndlovu he joins his former Highlanders teammate and current Zimbabwe Warriors coach, Rahman Gumbo in winning championship in Botswana. Gumbo led Township Rollers to a title in 2010.
