Cote d’Ivoire seal historic AWC qualification

Cote d’Ivoire sealed a historic qualification for the African Women’s Championship after routing Mozambique 5-0 in their second leg qualifier on Saturday in Maputo.
 
Les Elephantes who will be making their maiden appearance at the continent’s flagship women’s football event later in the year went through 12-0 on aggregate after a 7-0 victory in the first leg in Abidjan three weeks ago.
 
Coach Clementina Toure’s side were up as early as the 12th minute through Diakite Binta before Rita Akaffou doubled the lead 13 minutes later from a free-kick.
 
On the half-hour mark, captain Jean Gnago registered the third goal before Estelle Nahi finished off from Binta’s pass on the stroke of half time for the fourth goal.
 
Substitute Esso Nadege completed the goal harvest in added-on time to cap an impressive afternoon.
 
Les Elephantes joins the like of South Africa, DR Congo and hosts Equatorial Guinea to qualify for the championship billed for November.
