Francis Kimanzi was fired as Kenya coach on Tuesday after a string of poor results in the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifying competitions, football officials said.
Kimanzi, a former Mathare United player, took charge at Harambee Stars in November and led the team into the 2014 World Cup qualifying competition after defeating Seychelles in the preliminary rounds.
But he has failed to turn around the performance of the team which was knocked out of the 2013 African Cup of Nations by Togo at the weekend, and are currently bottom of Group F in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after two matches.
Football Kenya Federation is taking seriously the qualificiation to the 2014 World Cup and after the recent poor results from the opening rounds, drastic changes have been made," the national federation said in a statement.
"After a meeting held today, it has been resolved to disband the entire technical team of Harambee Stars with immediate effect. As the federation shops for a new coach both locally and internationally, former coach Francis Kimanzi has been appointed the acting FKF technical director."
Kenya will play Group leaders Nigeria in the next round of the 2014 World Cup matches in March next year.
