It’s an honour to be nominated - Mohamed Abou Treka (Egypt & Al Ahly)

Veteran Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Abou Treka made the list of the final five of nominees for the 2012 Player of the Year (based in Africa) and the Al Ahly player told that he was very proud to be nominated again for the prestigious award. The winner will be announced next month on 20thDecember at the Awards Gala night in Accra, Ghana How do you feel about being nominated for CAF Player of the year based in Africa, a title you already won in 2008?

Abou Treka : I'm really proud with this nomination, and take it as a boost and mental push for me in my career, especially as we're preparing to participate in the CAF Champions League final second leg. What does it mean to you to be nominated in a year that witnessed almost no domestic action at all after the Port Said tragedy?

Abou Treka: This has been a special year for me, a year of sadness. But on the other hand it is a motivation for me to go on and give all what I've got to win something and dedicate it for Al Ahly martyrs who lost their lives in Port Said. Do you believe you can win this Award this year?

Abou Treka : Just being nominated is an honor, and I have to keep on working hard and try my best regardless of winning or not. I already won that title before so I do know how valuable and important it is for any player. How do you see your competitors for the award (Zambians Stopila Sunzu and Rainford Kalaba, Cameroon's Yannick N'dkeng and Tunisia's Youssef Msakni)?

Abou Treka : They are all excellent players and had an amazing season with their clubs and national teams where they produced great performance. I believe they all deserve the award, and I hope the title remains in North Africa. If I'm not the one to win I wish  Msakni wins it. Last year  Tunisian Oussama Darragui won the award, and the year before it was my teammate Ahmed Hassan who won the award. I hope the North African  winning streak continues, be it me or Msakni. What do you think of this award in relationship to the African Player of the Year Award?

Abou Treka : I believe this is a great decision from CAF. Most of the spotlight is put on players having their career abroad and especially in Europe. So honoring the players based in Africa motivates them greatly. This is a very good decision from CAF.
