Press Release following CAF EXCO May 2013 meetings

The Confederation of African Football’s Executive Committee, in its meeting in Cairo on May 15th and 16th 2013, has approved the appointments of the new members for CAF Standing Committees for 2013-2015, following a new system of selection. The full lists will be published soon.

The CAF Executive Committee also congratulated the Football Associations of Algeria and Morocco for the excellent organisation of the recently held U-20 and U-17 tournaments respectively. Furthermore the Executive Committee confirmed the dates of the 2014 Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN), which will be held from 11th of January to 1st of February 2014, with the final draw to take place on 18th September in Cairo.

The CAF Executive Committee also confirmed the dates of the final phase of the upcoming Orange Africa Cup of Nations - Morocco 2015 to be held from Saturday January 17th to Saturday February 07th 2015. The qualifiers will include two (2) phases, one preliminary phase in July / August to reduce the engaged teams to 48, and a group phase made of 12 groups of 4 teams each, whereby the top of each group as well as the best 3 runners up will qualify to the final phase.

The group stage matches will be held during the double dates within the FIFA International Calendar of September, October and November 2014. More details will be provided. Following FIFA’s recommendation, CAF will also hold the draw of the play off phase for the qualifiers – African zone – of the FIFA 2014 World Cup on September 16th 2013. Further details including the venue will be provided in due course.

The CAF Executive Committee finally highlighted its happiness to be involved in the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the African Union through the organisation of a friendly match to be held in Addis Ababa on the 25th of May at 4.00 pm between Ethiopia and Sudan national teams which will kick off at 4.00 pm.
