Iheanacho adjudged Most Promising Talent

Nigerian teenager, Kelechi Iheanacho has been named the Most Promising Talent of the Year 2013.

The 17-year old whose exploits with the Nigeria U-17 team, Golden Eaglets, at the FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year, caught the attention of the world picked up the prize at the Glo-CAF Awards Gala held on Thursday, January 9 in Lagos.

He fended off challenge from Egyptian midfielder Saleh Gomaa and Ebenezer Assifuah of Ghana to claim the coveted prize as the “Most Promising Talent” on the continent. The Nigerian succeeds Egyptian Mohamed Salah, who won the prize last year.

The youngster was the star of the Golden Eaglets team that won the title at the global cadet championship, for a record fourth time, received his prize from CAF Executive Committee member, Anjorin Moucharafou.

He was named the Golden Ball winner at the tournament whilst his six goals in as many matches landed him the Silver Boot award, for the second top scorer.

The talented teenager joins compatriots Taye Taiwo (2006), John Obi Mikel (2005) and Obafemi Martins (2003 and 2004) to have been crowned the foremost emerging talent on the continent.

Iheanacho, a product of Taye Academy has been linked with several clubs abroad and is keen on securing a deal outside during the winter transfer.
