Super Eagles names squad for Ireland, France friendlies
04-26-2009

Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu has named a 29-man squad for upcoming friendly matches next month.

The Super Eagles play The Republic of Ireland in London on Wednesday, May 27 in London and five days later engage France at Saint Etienne.

The two matches are to fine-tune for June’s 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Kenya and Tunisia.

Nigeria hosts Kenya on June 7 in Abuja and a fortnight later travel for
a crunch tie against group leaders Tunisia in Rades.

Fulham defender Dickson Etuhu makes a return to the squad after being left out of previous matches despite his fine form with the London-based club.

Etuhu last played for the Super Eagles during the Ghana 2008 Africa Cup of Nations last year, which the two-time Africa champions exited at the last eight after losing 1-2 to hosts, Ghana.

Also making returns are TSG Hoffenheim forward Chinedu Obasi, Dinamo Kyiv midfielder Yusuf Ayila, and Rennes left back Elderson Echiejile.

Amodu also handed call-ups to uncapped duo Dennis Aogo of German Bundesliga side Hamburg, who has played for Germany at youth level and Byaelsa United’s Chibuzo Okonkwo.

The Super Eagles managed a barren draw with the Mambas of Mozambique in the Group B opener last March in Maputo.
