Tiko United made history in Cameroon by claiming the 2008/2009 league title. The Tiko-based club emerged the winners of the championship despite a 5-1 thrashing by Sable de Batié on the final day of the season last Wednesday to become the first club west of the Mungo to win the national title.

Tiko United finished on 49 points, four points richer than “favourites” Coton Sport of Garoua for their major silverware since joining the elite division two seasons ago.

The Garoua-based club lost 1-2 to Ngaoundéré, and failed in their bid for an unprecedented seventh straight league title but will represent Cameroon in next year’s CAF Champions League alongside league champions, Tiko United.

Tiko United lost thrice throughout the 26-week league as well as the best defence after letting in 19 goals in as many matches.

In other matches, Union Sportive sealed the third place with 3-1 victory over AS Matelots to finish on same points as Coton Sport, but with fewer goals.

Astres of Douala were held to a one all draw by Aigle Royal but finished fourth whilst Aigle bid farewell to the elite division.

Elsewhere, Fovu and Panthère also settled for a barren draw to finish fifth and sixth respectively.

Meanwhile, Aigle Royal, Danay FC of Yagoua and Mount Cameroon FC of Buea have been relegated to Division one.
