African Stars claim Namibia League title

African Stars have claimed the Namibian League title with a game to end the season.
 
The feat, the first in 15 years for the Windhoek based side came off after a one all draw with defending champions Orlando Pirates in a penultimate league clash last Wednesday.
 
Heinrich Kazeurua leveled just before half time for African Stars after Stanley Kamesiepo had put the hosts and holders, Orlando Pirates in the lead on the half-hour mark.
 
The draw took African Stars tally 48 points, four points richer than closest contenders Black Africa on the 12-club league standings.
 
Black Africa, the most successful Namibian club since independence failed in their bid to win a record fifth title and their first since 1999.
 
Of 21 matches, African Stars has managed 15 wins, three draws and three losses.
 
African Stars will represent the Southern African country in next years CAF Champions League.
 
The only continental experience for 2007 Namibian Cup Winners was their first round exit in the defunct CAF Cup.
 
Meanwhile Chief Santos of Tsumeb and Otjiwarongo-based Mighty Gunners have been relegated to the first division after placing 11th and 12th respectively.
