Title holders Tusker of Kenya will need to raise their game to retain the Kagame club cup in Sudan. The defending champions launch their title defence Wednesday against hosts Hay Al Arab in Port Sudan.

Tusker, formerly Kenya Breweries face a tough mission especially after a lean season in domestic league where they lost the league crown and are struggling to regain their form. But the Kenyan club have a knack of rising to the occasion in tough competitions.

Tusker sacked their cup winning coach Jacob Mule Ghost after winning the crown in Dar e salaam, Tanzania last year and hired former international James Nandwa. This will be Nandwa's first major outing as a coach after he quit his post as deputy coach of national team Harambee Stars early this year.

Nandwa said they have the ammunition and power to retain the cup. "We have prepared well for the event and we are not underrating any team here", he said before the team boarded their flight to Red Sea Port city of Port Sudan on Sunday morning.

Nandwa's confidence is raised in the impressive form of Nigerian import Joseph Emeka who is the leading scorer in the domestic Kenyan premier league. Emeka enlisted late last year has been impressive and has promised to deliver the title to the Kenyan club. Another dependable playmaker in Tusker is midfielder Oscar Kadenge.

Hay al Arab are a popular club in Port Sudan and will not be a pushover. In the earlier match in Port Sudan Wednesday,Miembeni of Zanzibar will take on Inter Stars of Burundi.
