Diables Noirs seal seventh Congolese league title
Diables Noirs sealed the 2009 Congolese league title over the weekend after a lone goal victory away to AS Police during the final fixture of the season.
The lone goal victory in the Week 34 clash handed the Brazzaville-based club the title despite a 2-0 win by close contenders AC Léopard Dolisie over US Saint-Pierre in one of the most competitive Congolese championships in recent times.
Diables Noirs finished on 77 points, just a point more than second placed AC Léopard Dolisie.
It is the seventh title for the “Black Devils” after successes in 1961, 1966, 1977, 1992, 2004 and 2007.
Diables Noirs will also represent Congo in next year’s Orange CAF Champions League.
Elsewhere, Etoile du Congo held defending champions CARA Brazzaville to a barren draw to finish on third place on 71 points, whilst CARA managed a disappointing fifth position on 56 points.
Former champions, Interclub of Brazzaville lost 0-1 to Patronage Saint-Anne; Inter Club Nkayi beat FC Bilombe 2-1 whilst relegation bound V.Club. Mokanda ended the season high with a 3-1 drubbing of JS Bougainvillées.
