Linguere of St. Louis Scoops First Senegalese Title
11-02-2009

Linguere of St. Louis, which made its debut in the professional season in 2009, has, for the first time, inscribed its name in the history of the Senegalese championship. The team becomes the fifth of the region to win the championship after Olympic of Thies, Espoir of St. Louis, SEIB of Diourbel and Ndiambour of Louga, following its first edition in 1960.
During the return leg final played Sunday in Saint-Louis, Linguere succeeded to defeat Casa-Sports of Ziguinchor by 4-2 only after post match penalties. The Linguere keeper played a decisive role by stopping two of the Casa-Sports penalties. During the away leg final, both teams separated on a virgin draw. The same scenario occurred in the return match after extra play time.
Casa-Sports will thus seek to be compensated in the forthcoming final of the League Cup for which it qualified on October 28, by defeating Etics of Mboro 3-2 after prolongation. In the course of the final, Casa-Sports will face AS Douane of Dakar.
It is worthy to note that the return leg final of the championship was officiated by a trio of feminine referees, Fadouma Dia, Florence Biagui and Die Absa Sylla. The fourth referee was also a woman, Adja Seynabou.
