Veteran coach Stanley Tshosane to coach the Botswana national team Tshoshane's appointment to coach Botswana popularly known as The Zebras is as of November 1 this year. He has been in a caretaker capacity with Botswana since latrer part of 2008 following the departure of Briton Colwyn Rowe. Botswana Football Association decided on the local after courting ex-Zambia coach Roald Poulsen and Mike Sithole of Gaborone United who recently led the club to its first league title in 20 years. Tshosane gets the job despite mounting criticism in the local Botswana media that the job should have been given to an experienced foreign coach. The Zebras coach recent led Botswana to the quarterfinals of the 2009 COASAFA Senior Challenge Cup where they lost 1-0 to this year’s tournaments champions and hosts Zimbabwe in the quarterfinals in Bulawayo on October 27. Tshosane brief is to qualify Botswana to the 2012 Orange Africa Cup of Nations and before that the 2011 Orange African Nations championships (CHAN). Botswana have yet to qualify for either tournament in their history. Tshoshane's first major CAF engagement will come in the 2011 CHAN qualifiers next year. Botswana will face South Africa in a CHAN first round qualifier when they host Bafana-Bafana in the first-leg match during the weekend of March 12-13. Angola to play friendly matches with Congo-Brazzaville and Ghana Angola will first host Congo-Brazzaville in Luanda on November 14. Congo-Brazzaville's interest in both the 2010 Orange Africa Cup of Nations anf FIFA World Cup qualifiers ended in the second qualifying phase when they finished third in Group 10. Manuel Jose's Angola will later host Ghana in Luanda four days later. Ghana, who have qualified for both the 2010 FIFA World Cup and Orange Africa Cup of Nations, are is expected to travel to Luanda with a squad that is also expected to comprise of six players from the 2009 FIFA Under-20 World Cup gold medal winning team in Egypt. Angola, who qualify automatically as hosts of the 2010 Orange Africa Cup of Nations, have had to make do with a diet of friendly matches as build-up to the tournament they will stage from January 10-31. The Orange Africa Cup of Nations will be staged in four Angolan cities namely Luanda, Benguela, Cabinda and Lubango. Angola's friendly matches against Congo-Brazzaville and Ghana will be the first at home this year and seventh and eighth friendly matches played by them over the last 11 months. Angola has played six friendly matches away this year, all in Portugal, against Guinea that finished scoreless, Senegal and Cape Verde against both whom they drew 1-1 with. They later beat Togo and Malta 2-0 and 2-1 respectively and were later held to a scoreless draw by Cameroon. Meanwhile, Angolan striker Manucho has apologized for his behavior in the build-up for the friendly matches between Malta and Cameroon last month. The striker who plays for Spanish La Liga side Valladolid has apologized to coach Manuel and the country for coming late for training camp to prepare for both games and was later frozen out of future team engagements. Manucho has pleaded with Manuel to be considered for Angola's forthcoming friendly matches and for the Orange Africa Cup of Nations in two months time. The striker is not part of thde 24-man squad Maneul Jose named last week that included 13 players based abroad. |
