Madjid Bougherra elected best Algerian player of the Year

The Ballon d’Or Algérien for the best Algerian player of the year voted by the Sports daily El Haddaf and Le Buteur, has been won by Algerian and Glasgow Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra. Bougherra had a great season with Glasgow Rangers which won the title in Scotland at the detriment of rivals Celtic and played an instrumental role in Algeria’s qualification for the 2010 African Cup of Nations and World Cup.

Bougherra was not the only one who was honoured for his services to the game during the ending year. Top scorer of his team and key striker in the CAF Cup and UNAF football competition, Abdelmalek Ziaya was voted the best upcoming home based player. Mohamed Messaoud, ASO Chlef stiker who scored 19 goals during the last season took the best scorer award. Entente Setif goalkeeper Faouzi Chaouchi received the golden gloves award for the best goalkeeper. A recognition which came in the wake of his heroic performance against Egypt during the World Cup qualification playoff match in Khartoum which was his first full game for the Algerian national team. 

The revelation of the year trophy was assigned to two rising stars, Karim Matmour of Borussia M’gladbach and Rafik Halliche Nacional CD in Portugal.
Two former greats of the beautiful game in Algeria Rabah Madjer and Lakhdar Belloumi were jointly designated best Algerian player of the Century.
