Renard applies for Tanzania job
 
The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has revealed that Zambia’s coach Herve Renard is among the many tacticians who have applied for the Tanzania job.
 
TFF’s General Secretary Fredrick Mwakalebela told Daily News Newspaper in Tanzania that t Renard was among high profile coaches who sent in their applications. Over 12 coaches have sent in their applications to replace Brazilian Marcio Maximo, whose contract expires in July.
 
In the wake of Maximo’s pending departure TFF has started the process of searching for his replacement and Mwakalebela said coaches from Venezuela, United Kingdom as well as other European countries have already submitted their application vying to take over from Maximo.

“Though we have not announced the criteria for national team coach, applications are already flowing in,” he said, adding that they declare the post vacant and announce qualifications for Maximo’s successor after the federation’s general meeting later this month.
 
Reports also indicate that Cote D’Ivoire’s national soccer coach Vahid Haliihodzic who pitched camp with his team in the East African state ahead of the just ended Orange Caf Africa Nations Cup in Angola is also interested in taking charge of the Taifa Stars. He will however be available after leading the Ivorians through their World Cup campaign this summer in South Africa.
 
 
 
 
 
Kenyan champs Sofapaka face AFC Leopards in SuperSport Cup
 
 
Kenyan  Premier League champions Sofapaka FC start  hot favourites to win the first title of the 2010 season when they face AFC Leopards, the FKL (Football Kenya Limited) Cup holders today (Sunday) at the National Stadium in Nairobi.
 
 
Previously known as the Super Cup, the traditional season curtain-raiser is destined to capture stepped-up interest.
 
Following new sponsorship, it will be known as the SuperSport/DStv Champions Cup. For the first time there will be cash prizes.
 
Perceived pre-season form will heavily favour Sofapaka who had useful a tune-up in December during the six-team Tusker Cup tournament in Tanzania where the Kenyans lost in the final to Dar es Salaam giants Young Africans.
 
 
 
Express maintain lead in Ugandan league
 
Although it’s still a close contest in the Ugandan Super League, Express FC have maintained their lead over the other 17 teams.
 
The team coached by veteran David Otti, the Red Eagles as they are popularly known have 37 points from 18 games played, while Bunnamwaya FC closely follow with two points less.
 
The two top settled for a 3-all draw early last week when the second round of the league resumed. Defending champions Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) FC who will represent the country in the Orange CAF Africa Champions League are in third place with 35 points.
 
The champions who had the chance to move to second place on Saturday where held to a barren draw by army side Simba, while former champions Kampala City Council FC (now in fourth place) where also held to a goalless draw.
