Etincelles take grip of Rwanda league

Etincelles FC who have never won the Rwandan Premier league have taken the lead after their hard fought 1-0 victory over Amagaju on Sunday as the second round kicked off.

Jean de Dieu Harorimana scored the lone goal for Etincelles to take them to 27 points, three more than defending champions APR who have a game in hand.
It was the team’s eighth win of the season and preserved their lead at the top of the table prompting the club’s head coach Rajab Bizimuremye to issue another warning to the giant sides like APR, Atraco and Rayon Sport.

“We want to start from where we left off in the first round but we also know that we have to double our efforts,” he said.

Bizimurenye said the most important thing right now was to keep their feet on the ground and play each game as it comes. “Of course, we are under pressure to keep up with the good run but we have to make sure we stay focused and strong mentally,” he added.

In the other games played, Rayon Sport moved to third place after their 2-1 win over Electrogaz, while Mukura FC lost 1-0 to AS Kigali. Atraco and Kiyovu picked 1-0 wins over Marines and Musanze respectively.
