NEWSMotion of Support to CAF President, ISSA HAYATOU 02-20-2010
The Executive Committee of CAF meeting on February 20, 2010, in Lubumbashi (Democratic Republic of Congo) on the heels of the Clubs Cup SuperCup, held to review certain issues with regard to the press campaign aimed at tarnishing the image of high personalities of the hierarchy of African football following the tragic incident that occurred in the Cabinda frontier on January 8, 2010. The Executive Committee of CAF: - Reiterates its sincere condolences which it had already presented on January 10, 2010 to the Togolese People and to the President of the Republic of Togo, His Excellency Mr. Faure Gnassingbe by fax with acknowledgement of receipt. - Recalls that, the following day after the incident, a delegation comprising all members of the Executive Committee of CAF, led by its President Issa Hayatou, went to Cabinda to present its condolences to the team and to the Togolese delegation led by three Members of Government including the Togolese Minister of Sports, Mr. Tchao. - Decries the fact that the Togolese authorities rejected the presence of a CAF Delegation at the funeral in Lome. - Recalls that the suspension of Togo for the next two Africa Cups of Nations is a decision unanimously arrived at by the entire Executive Committee on January 30, 2010 in Luanda on the basis of the regulations of the competition and the statutes of CAF. - Strongly and officially congratulates President Issa Hayatou and reiterates to him its total confidence and also its constant support and encouragement for him to pursue the ambitious and laudable projects for the development of African football. Done in Lubumbashi on February 20, 2010 The Executive Committee |
