Stars flock Accra for CAF Awards Gala

The Ghanaian capital, Accra has been overwhelmed by some of the biggest names in African football ahead of the Glo-CAF Awards Gala.
 The personalities ranging from active footballers, ex-footballers, administrators and coaches from all walks of life are in the land of the four-time African champions to witness and add colour to the coronation of the foremost footballer on the continent.
 The Glo-CAF Awards 2009 Awards Gala will be held in Thursday, March 11 at the Baqnquet Hall, State House in Accra 
 The arrival of the personalities has been the talk of town amongst football fans, serving a perfect starter for the main Awards Gala.
 Leading the pack of officialdom is CAF President, Issa Hayatou who touched down at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Tuesday night in the company of Mustapha Fahmy, General Secretary and some members of the CAF Executive Committee.
 For the footballers, Ghana legend Abedi Pele, Anthony Baffoe, Anthony Yeboah, Abdul Karim Razak (Golden Boy), Ibrahim Sunday among others constitute the local legion expected to grace the event.
 Also, expected are former Super Eagles captain Stephen Keshi, Senegalese legend, Jules Bocande, Oswaldo Saturnino Oliviera “Jesus” of Angola and Algerian football hero, Ali Fergani.
 Ex-France international and World Cup winner, Christian Karembeu would also be around and a host of others including Sellas Tetteh, coach of the Ghana U-20 side that clinched gold at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt last year as well as John Obuh of the Nigeria U-17 team fame.
 However, the spotlight on the likes of Ghana’s Michael Essien, Didier Drogba of Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroonian Samuel Eto’o, contenders for the flagship honour, African Footballer of the Year award.
 Also, not forgetting AC Milan new recruit, Dominic Adiyiah of the Ghana’s Black Satellites and gunning for the Young Player of the Year award alongside South African Kermit Erasmus and Nigerian Emmanuel Sani.
 This is the second time in three years that the annual event is being staged in Accra.
 Telecommunication giants, Globacom are the sponsors of the event.
