Olympics - updated draw procedure, with teams
The draw for the 2 nd main round of the men’s qualifiers in the Olympic Football Tournaments, London 2012 will be held at the CAF Headquarters on Wednesday 13 April 2011, 10.00 hours. The 16th qualified team will only be known on 20 April 2011, as FIFA has postponed the return leg match between Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire for this same date in order to allow the Ivorian team to leave its territory to play this match.
The sixteen teams are divided into 2 pots, one containing the 8 seeded teams and the second one the next best 8 teams. The FIFA Coca Cola ranking of March 2011 has determined the seeded teams.
Consequently, one ball from pot 1 will be drawn and placed in the central empty pot, one ball from pot 2 will then be drawn and placed in this same central pot. The two balls will be stirred again. The first ball drawn will determine which team will play its home match first (first-leg match), the second ball drawn determines the order for the return-leg match. All the balls will be of the same colour. This procedure will be repeated 7 times, until all 8 matches are known.
The pots are confirmed as follows:
Pot 1 (seeded teams):
Pot 2 (non-seeded teams):
As a reminder, the match dates for the 2nd round are the following: 3/4/5 June 2011 for the first-leg matches, 17/18/19 June 2011 for the return-leg matches.
The draw results will be confirmed in written by 14 April 2011 at the latest.
