Welcome to Saly Beach Soccer Stadium

Published:

Until a few weeks ago, this building did not exist. Hundreds of professionals worked day and night to get it out of the sands at Saly beach, under the supervision of CAF and BSWW experts.

Josep Maldonado Smith is one of these experts. His extensive experience on BSWW (Beach Soccer World Wide) competitions has given him overseeing the logistics and stadium construction operations for the competition which takes place from 23 to 29 May 2021 in Senegal. And for him, the differences with a classic football stadium are huge.

“This is a temporary stadium. It's totally different from 11-a-side in terms of operations. For popular football, there is already an existing structure that makes the work easier, but of course you have to adapt certain tasks to the stadium you are going to use.”

“Here, we start from nothing. With just a piece of land. It’s hard to start from scratch, but it also gives flexibility to add only what is really necessary,” added the Spanish expert.

The official pitch required an area of 41m x 32m comprising the pitch itself (dimension 37m x 28m) and a space of 2m behind each of the four lines. It is this scheme with international standards that has been adopted.

The capacity of the Saly stadium is 1000 seats. Given the Covid-19 pandemic, strict health protocols will be put in place throughout the competition.

On site, an anti-doping room has been set up.

As for the medical component, an emergency team composed of a doctor and a nurse as well as an ambulance will be deployed during the matches. The Red Cross will also be present.

Located opposite the Saly beach football stadium, the Leopold S. Senghor Medico-Sports Center will be responsible for serious cases.

Due to its geographical position, the Saly site offers a very charming backdrop for an international competition such as the Africa Cup of Nations. It is finally ready to receive its guests.
