CAF African Schools Football Championship WAFU B Qualifiers underway in Ouagadougou
The CAF African Schools Football Championship Zonal Qualifiers continue to build excitement across the continent as the WAFU B Qualifiers officially got underway in Ouagadougou on Tuesday, 02 December to conclude on 044 December 2025.
The start of the WAFU B tournament follows the successful conclusion of the WAFU A Qualifiers held in The Gambia last week, where Senegal claimed the Boys’ title and Guinea were crowned champions in the Girls’ division. Both nations have secured their spots at next year’s Continental Finals.
The WAFU B Qualifiers will be contested in both the boys and girls U-15 divisions.
The Boys’ competition features Burkina Faso, Niger and Ghana in Group A, while Group B consists of Côte d’Ivoire, Benin and Nigeria.
In the Girls’ division, Group A includes Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire, with Ghana and Benin placed in Group B.
All matches will be played in a round-robin format, with the top finishers and overall regional champions earning qualification to the Continental Finals where they will join their WAFU A counterparts.
In addition to the on-field action, the WAFU B Qualifiers will host a comprehensive series of capacity-building programmes aimed at empowering young participants and strengthening the foundation of school football across the region.
These initiatives form an integral part of CAF’s long-term strategy to use football as a tool for education, development and social impact.
CAF will also roll out its newly launched Gamechanger Programme on the sidelines of the WAFU B tournament.
The innovative programme introduces young participants to digital skills, data literacy, football analytics and financial-education concepts, ensuring that the competition contributes not only to football development but also to broader life skills that will support youth in their academic and personal growth.
The Gamechanger Programme combines interactive workshops, modern teaching methods and football-themed learning to inspire participants to think creatively, build confidence and develop skills that extend well beyond the pitch.
