Frenchman Didier Gomes Da Rosa was appointed coach of Mauritania's national football team to replace Corentin Martins, sacked in October after seven years of service.

"Mr. Didier Gomes Da Rosa is the new coach of the Mauritania national team," said the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania (FFRIM) in a statement released Wednesday evening, without giving further details.

The 52-year-old French technician has coached several African clubs since the early 2010s including Coton Sport de Garoua (Cameroon), Horoya AC (Guinea), Ismaily (Egypt) and Al Merreikh (Sudan).

He succeeds another French technician, Corentin Martins, fired in October, after the elimination of Mauritania in a qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup.

The Mauritania team will play its second CAN finals in a row, which will take place from January 9 to February 6, 2022 in Cameroon.

The Mourabitounes are in group F, along with Gambia, Tunisia and Mali.
