Mozambique coach reacts to the Beach Soccer AFCON draw

Abineiro Ussaca

The Mozambique head coach Abineiro Ussaca reacted to the draw following the ceremony held on Friday in Maputo. He said that the main objective of his team is to reach the final of the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2022.

"All opponents are respectable and we will continue humble in our work”, said Ussaca.

The hosts and runners-up of last year's edition seeded in Group A, will again cross paths with Morocco, opponents who a fortnight ago they played in three private matches, winning two and losing one.

“I also want to highlight that not all matches are equal. It is not because we beat Morocco in the preparation that we will assume we are favourites", explained the coach.

Playing at home, the Mozambican will seek to win the Beach Soccer AFCON, after having finished runners-up in May last year. Their amazing course during the edition held in Senegal, grant them a participation in the FIFA World Cup the following August, in Russia.

We are prepared to face any opponent. Abineiro Ussaca, Mozambique Head coach

Speaking to last week at the end of three matches against Morocco, Abineiro Ussaca thanked the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF) and all entities for the opportunity they have created for the team to work in better conditions and stressed that the games against Morocco are a plus, because they served to evaluate the quality of the players.

"Evolution and commitment are different things, because during the game the dynamic is different. With the games I could see who are the most evolved athletes, in other words, the ones who are in better conditions to integrate the national team in this upcoming competition. Meanwhile, those who still need to evolve will return to their clubs, on Saturday, to continue improving".

According to Ussaca, 18 players will be taken to Vilanculos. As for the preparation, the coach highlighted that the team is in a good rhythm, and now they are in the last phase, which is the technical and tactical part.

"I appreciate the commitment of each athlete, because they have shown good indicators that we will have a better team than last season". New players will be added to the group as three of them were left out namely: Anuvalda, Barca and Bachir.

Regarding the draw, Ussaca said that the expectation is to win regardless of the opponent, because all qualified teams are the best.

Now that the groups are revealed, the preparation can really start for the last edition runners up. However, Ussaca stressed the fact that title holders Senegal are not in Mozambique's group for the first round.

The defending champions, three-time winners in 2016, 2018 and 2021 will face Uganda, Madagascar and Egypt.

The Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations 2022 in Mozambique will act as the African qualifier to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2023.
