Algeria maintained their 100 per cent record at thew Total Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2019 thanks to a 3-0 drubbing of Tanzania in their Group C ultimate clash on Monday at the Al Salam Stadium, Cairo.

Les Fennecs scored all three goal during the final ten minutes of the first half during with Adam Ounas netting brace and the other by Islam Slimani.

The result ensured the Algerians topped the group with the maximum nine points, whilst Tanzania's first outing at the flagship continental showpiece event ended on a low, as they finished their campaign pointless. Senegal grabbed the group's other ticket for the next round after beating Kenya 3-0 in their other clash at the June 30 Stadium, also in Cairo.

Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi altered his starting line-up, dropping captain Riyad Mahrez and Sofiane Feghouli to the bench, handing Slimani his first start of the competition.

After a strong start, Les Fennecs broke the deadlock after 35 minutes to give Algeria the lead. Four minutes later, Ounas, who plays for Italian giants Napoli, doubled the lead before completing his brace on the stroke of half time.

The second half was entertaining but either side failed to hit the back of the net as Tanzania guided by Nigeria legend Emmanuel Amuneke bid farewell to the competition.

Total Man of the Match: Adam Ounas (Algeria)

What they said

Adam Ouanas (Total Man of the Match)

Our coach gave us huge confidence and we won after playing well. We’re satisfied with our performance and we are going to next round with great will.

Djamel Belmadi (Coach, Algeria)

For the first time since 1990 we win all our group games. I’m proud of my players and satisfied with their performance. Who played today are not substitutes, they are part of the team and train with passion. There are many competitors for us on the title and at the end we will see who can achieve the ultimate. I don’t like comparisons between generations, and we still have a long way to go.

Emmanuel Amuneke (Coach, Tanzania)

It was an amazing game. We had chances but didn’t use them, and made mistakes that Algeria made use of. Experience is very important in such competitions. In football some chances just come once. I hope Algeria good luck in the coming stages. When we get back to Tanzania we will study the lessons we learnt here in 2019 AFCON and will develop our talents.
