Burkina Faso seeking new coach, opt not to extend Malo's contract

Burkina Faso are seeking a new coach for their senior national team to chart a new course for the Stallions as they prepare for future international competitions.

The Federation Burkinabe de Football (FBF) on Friday started the process of appointing a substantive coach by calling for applications to fill the position.

The local football governing body stated that it is seeking a competent and qualified local or foreign coach to take the post permanently.

This comes after the FBF opted not to extend the expired contract of coach Kamou Malo after their participation in the recent TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.

The FBF decided not to prolong the contract of Malo despite leading the Stallions to the semi-finals of the tournament in Cameroon where they lost to eventual winners Senegal.

Oscar Borro was appointed as the interim coach in the wake of the decision on the future of Malo and now the FBF is embarking on a mission to get a substantive trainer.

"The Federation Burkinabe de Football is calling for applications for the recruitment of a national coach for the Senior Stallions," the FBF wrote in a statement on Friday.

The federation set out the criteria for applicants insisting that those interested in the position must have the experience of coaching a national team at the Africa Cup of Nations and be able to communicate effectively in French.

The successful candidate must permanently reside in Burkina Faso during the term of his engagement as the coach of the senior national team.

The FBF will start receiving applications from 15 March until 31 March before shortlisted candidates are interviewed for the identity of the successful coach to be known.

Malo has been in charge of the squad since 2019 and has been credited for the team's recent successes including their impressive showing at the recent AFCON.

He previously coached local side Real club Kadiogo with whom he won the Burkinabe league back to back in 2016 and 2017 and the FA Cup in 2012 and 2016.
