Burkina Faso v Zimbabwe - A victory to revive

Published:

When Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe lock horns on Wednesday (20 January 2021) at Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium in Yaoundé, only victory would be sought after by both sides. The Total CHAN 2020 Group A match day 2 game is decisive in so many means, after both teams lost their opening games.

Burkina Faso lost to Mali 1-0 on the opening day, to go seven matches without a win in three CHAN participations (3 draws, 4 defeats). Against Zimbabwe, Coach Seydou Zerbu “Krul” men will be seeking their first ever CHAN win, a one that could revive their quarterfinal qualification hopes before facing hosts Cameroon in the last group matchday.

The Stallions conceded 20 minutes from time to bow against neighbors Mali and will now seek redemption against Zimbabwe Warriors if they are to continue their CHAN campaign.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe who are having their fifth CHAN appearance are looking forward for a win to stand a chance of a place in the next round. The Warriors lost four of their last five CHAN games, without a win in this streak that they are seeking to put an end to on Wednesday.

"We are here to play the matches one by one, and it is now up to us to prove what we are worth," Zimbabwe coach Zdravko Logarusic said.

This is the second CHAN meeting between Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso, with the Warriors winning 1-0 in the 2014 edition in South Africa.
