Obed Mayamba Mukokiani scored a goal in either half as AS Vita Club came from a goal down to beat El Mereikh 4-1 in a Total CAF Champions League Group A match in Khartoum on Tuesday.
The home side had gone ahead through Elsamani Saadeldin, but Vita fought back with Mukokiani equalizing before Djuma Shabani took them 2-1 up at the break. Amede Masasi added the third with a beautiful strike in the second half before Mukokiani completed his brace late on.
The home side who lost the first group match to holders Al Ahly had a dream start with Saadeldin striking them ahead in the eighth minute. However, they were stunned in the 27th minute when Mukokiani equalized.
The forward reacted fastest after Mereikh keeper Monged Salman parried away Zemanga Soze’s well struck long distance shot into his path. Just before that Mereikh had survived another assault after Mukokiani’s shot from inside the box came rattling under the crossbar.
Vita then went into the lead in the 36th minute when Shabani converted from the penalty spot.
In the second half, Mereikh sought to get themselves back into contention and had a chance in the 68th minute when defender Kamal Suliman flicked Ahmed Adam’s corner at the near post just inches wide.
Four minutes later, all hopes of a comeback were merely quashed when Vita went 3-1 up in sublime fashion. Masasi picked up the ball at the edge of the box, set himself with one touch and released a left footed bullet with his second, keeper Monged stretching all but in vain.
Seven minutes from time, the game was sealed for Vita as they scored their fourth. A long ball from deep in their own half hit Mukokiani on the back as he raced for it and this took the ball off the keeper’s direction, the Vita forward doing the easiest of tasks tapping the ball into the net.
With the result, Vita are third in the group, only coming in below Ahly on head to head record.
