Al Ahly coach, Pitso Mosimane is hopeful that the team will remain in the top two of Group A of the TotalEnergies Champions League.

The Egyptian giants suffered a second loss to log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns in the return leg held at the FNB Stadium, Johannesburg. The 2016 Champions League winners walked away with a 1-0 victory. The Red Devils are placed second after four round of matches and are left with two games against Al-Merrikh Sporting Club and Al-Hilal in the group.

“We have two games to play and we should stay where we are. And to do that we have to win the next two games. The two games are in Cairo so we have no excuse. We have done this before, it’s our lives. We are Al Ahly. It’s gonna be tough, it is tough but the emblem tells you it has been hard for many years. I didn’t make this team, this team has been through the tick of things. All the time, the group stages will deceive you. You can win six out of six and stay number one. Let’s go to the knockout stages, it’s a different game,” says Mosimane.

The three times Champions League winning coach has challenged his former club to win the continental competition again.

“Sundowns have an opportunity to win it now since 2016. It’s been too long. They have invested a lot of money and on players, you could see with their December transfer. They have invested a lot, even more than us. The pressure is on them, they have to win it now. I mean they can beat Al Ahly home and away so might as well. If they don’t win it, it’s the Paris Saint Germaine story. You can win the group stages, get the trophy. Put it on the table, then we’ll talk,” he adds.
