Gambia v Tunisia – Mission: Bronze

Gambia faces Tunisia on Friday (5 March 2021) at Cheikha Ould Boidiya Stadium in Nouakchott, as the Total U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Mauritania 2021 reaches its classification match.

After proving the point of having a promising new generation, both sides want to end their Mauritanian adventure with a medal on their necks, even if a bronze one.

There might be some frustration in both camps after missing a place in the final, but they both need to end their participation on a high note and return home with something in hand. Both sides’ coaches, Gambian Mattar Mboge and Tunisian Maher Kanzari should have found the words to boost the morale of their troops.

For the Young Scorpions of Gambia, it will be a great opportunity to show themselves as they are aiming of a place in the senior team that takes part in the Total Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021 qualifiers.

Mboge and his players also have the opportunity to imitate the 2007 class who brought Gambia their best achievment, finishing third in Congo.

As for Tunisia, debutants in Total U-20 AFCON, there will be a need to continue achieving good results.

They have won a new generation in the Young Carthage Eagles, and despite the heavy 4-1 defeat to Uganda in the semis, they are still hoping of the bronze medal to see their young boys starting their career with something to cheer for.

Against Gambia, there will need a win to leave Mauritania on a positive note.
