CAF President Ahmad Ahmad and Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Ashraf Sobhy officially opened the third edition of the Total U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt 2019 at the Cairo International Stadium on Friday, 8 November 2019 evening.
After a brief speech by Ahmad and Sobhy, the opening ceremony witnessed colorful shows that reflected African culture and the Egyptian civilization.
There was a place for musical shows from the famous Egyptian band “Sharmoofers” and the rising star “Nesma Mahgoub”. Colorful and breathtaking fireworks lit the skies of Cairo as the show convened.
Hosts Egypt kicks off the tournament against Mali later on the night, with Cameroon and Ghana locking horns at Group A. Group B starts on Saturday at Al Salam stadium with action including title holders Nigeria against Cote d’Ivoire, and neighbors South Africa and Zambia facing later on the night.
The top three teams qualify for the 2020 summer Olympics, in Tokyo, Japan.
