Burkina Faso eyeing qualification ahead of Algeria clash

Algeria will face off with Burkina Faso at the Stade de la Paix in their second group stage game of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d'Ivoire 2023 on Thursday, 20 January.

The Desert Foxes will be hoping to bounce back from their poor start which saw them sharing spoils with Angola after taking the lead.

Burkina Faso on the other hand won their opening game with a Bertrand Traore late minute penalty. Another win will qualify them to the knockout stage.

Algeria head coach, Djamel Belmadi knows the task ahead and the threat Burkina Faso poses ahead of the tie.

DJAMEL BELMADI - ALGERIA HEAD COACH

“We said at the beginning of the tournament that it is very important for us to have three points but we couldn’t. This is our second match and our objective is to win, we will put in all the efforts in order to win the game.

“It is true that it is going to be very hot but we are going to give our very best and if players are tired, we will make substitutions because we have players who are good and have the determination for this second match".

HUBERT VELUD - BURKINA FASO HEAD COACH

“We are going to have a very important game, we already know this is going to be tougher, Algeria is a very good team so we have made our preparations the right way.

We can’t say this is the final of the group because we have seen the results of the other games, because we have other tough teams but this is a very important match for the two teams and we are ready.

“Algeria is a tougher opponent and we will make sure we do everything and make sure we get the victory.

Kick-off at Stade de la paix de Bouaké on Saturday is at 14h00 GMT.
