Comoros and Gambia settle for draw in AFCON qualifier

The first round of qualifiers for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations scheduled for Wednesday were played. Apart from Sudan’s win over Niger, three other matches were played.
Goals: Sobhi Al Dawi (16’) for Libya, Innocent Ntshui (47’) for Rwanda
Rwanda managed to secure a valuable equalizer in their 1-1 draw against Libya. In a high-paced encounter, the Mediterranean Knights dominated the first half. Sobhi Al Dawi opened the scoring for the North Africans with a right-footed strike following a brilliant play down the left wing. However, defensive lapses from Libya allowed Rwanda to equalize, with Innocent Ntshui capitalizing to level the score.
Goals: Y. Mchangama (37’) for Comoros, M. Barrow (45+1) for Gambia
In Morocco, Comoros faced off against Gambia in another thrilling encounter. Stefano Cusin’s side took the lead through a superb direct free-kick from Youssouf Mchangama in the 37th minute, just outside the penalty area. The goal spurred Gambia into action, with Musa Barrow equalizing with a stunning free-kick that soared into the top corner during first-half stoppage time.
The final match of the day, a clash between Tanzania and Ethiopia, ended in a goalless draw. Both teams fought hard, but neither could break the deadlock in this last fixture of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers’ opening round.
