The Cranes will travel to the northern Ghanaian city of Tamale to face the Black Stars in a Group E Day One clash on Friday, 7 October 2016.

In the build-up to the game, Uganda coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredejovic has named a 30-man provisional squad for the opening match of the group phase which will see Congo hosting Egypt in the other Group E match two days later in Kintele.

The surprise inclusions in the squad include Colorado Rapids midfielder Mike Azira and Hamis Dieo Kizza of Free State Stars in South Africa. Both missed out in the squad that beat Comoros 1-0 to make history when Uganda qualified for the AFCON after a 39-year absence.

“The honeymoon is over we need to put our feet on the ground because we will be facing giants and we need to start now. I’m glad we have made history but everything has its time and now it’s time to make more history,” said Micho.

“We expect all the squad to assemble in Lome (Togo) for a five-day camp and we shall have to link from Lome to Tamale. This will be our assignment where we are going for business not joke. We have to start well and we need to prepare because we have good players,” he added.

The last time Uganda visited Ghana, they held their guests 1-1 in an AFCON 2015 qualifier, after Cranes’ Tonny Mawejje’s opener was annulled by Andre Ayew.
