Miya brace sink Lesotho in Maseru

Farouk Miya netted a brace to hand Uganda a 2-0 win over Lesotho away in a Group L encounter played at Setsoto Stadium in Maseru on Tuesday.

The result helped the Cranes complete a double over ‘Likuena’ having beaten them 3-0 in Kampala earlier on Saturday.

The Cranes made their intentions known from the start and it did not come as a surprise as they found the back of the net as early as the fifth minute. The impressive Miya dribbled his way past the Lesotho defenders before unleashing a powerful shot to beat Likano Mphuthi in goal for Lesotho.

Lesotho nearly found their way back into the game on the half-hour mark as Bokang Sello came close to levelling, but with Denis Onyango making a good save to keep his side in the lead.

In the second-half, Lesotho made several changes with Motebang Sera making way for Nkoto Masoabi while Jane Tsotleho came in for Hlompho Kalake.

The changes seemed to bring some life into their play as they created better goal scoring chances than in the first-half, but struggled to find their way past Onyango, who made several saves to maintain the healthy lead for the Cranes.

Uganda leads Group L with 10 points while Tanzania are back in second position after getting their revenge over Cape Verde with a 2-0 win in Dar es Salaam also on Tuesday.
