Namibia’s Brave Warriors out to spoil Zambia’s party

The Brave Warriors of Namibia will take to the field on Wednesday with a mission to spoil Zambia’s party in the last Group D match of the 6th edition of the Total African Nations Championship (CHAN), Cameroon 2020.

The All-Southern affair will take place at the Limbe Omnisports Stadium on Wednesday 27 January 2021.

While the Chipolopolo will be out to try and get maximum points to confirm their place in the quarterfinals, the Brave Warriors will be eager to impress in their last game before they return home.

Zambia are second in Group D after their 2-0 win against Tanzania and a 1-1 draw against table leaders Guinea. Namibia on the other hand lost 3-0 in their opening match to Guinea, before falling 1-0 to the Taifa Stars of Tanzania.

But Namibia’s coach Richard ‘Bobby’ Samaria made it clear that they are determined to go the distance in their last group game against Zambia. “We know the Zambian team well and we shall be hungry to score our first goals in the tournament,” added Samaria.

Samaria stressed that after conceding four goals and scoring none, it is time they put up a better show and protected the national jersey better. “It is not how many times we fall, but how many times we shall stand up,” he added.

Namibia captain Dynamo Carlos Fredericks confirmed they will not be an easy team to face because they are playing without any sort of pressure. “We want to go out and win our first game in the tournament,” he noted.

Meanwhile Zambia’s coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic said they will not take the last game for granted but will be out to give a much better performance compared to the last two games they have played.

“I know the Namibians are proud people and will be eager to come out with a good result against us. All we need to do is to be solid in defense, creative in the build-up and effective upfront because Namibia always defends with six players,” added Sredojevic.

Chipolopolo skipper Adrian Chama said the game against Namibia is a COSAFA derby, and it will be very tricky because their opponents will be under less pressure. “Expect a very different Zambian display,” he added.

In their last game at the CHAN 2018 in Morocco, Namibia and Zambia settled for a 1-1 draw as the two teams marched on to the quarterfinals together.
