Volunteers – Key players in CHAN organization

Cameroonian young student Essenen Dicka participates for the first time in a big tournament as a volunteer.

Following a course in communication at Cameroon Institute of International Relations, Dicka is delighted to be selected within the team of volunteers. "It all started with an announcement from local organizing committee (COCAN) which was looking for volunteers for CHAN," said the 26-year-old girl. "I was chosen with several other young people, we did interviews before the final choice. I like challenges and that's what prompted me to sign up. After training, I was assigned to the media committee for training."

Dicka says she is honored as a Cameroonian to welcome Total CHAN 2020 in her country. "I am happy that we can host the tournament in a country that breathes football with the objective for us to prepare for the Total AFCON 2021."

The young communication masters’ student believes that she learns every day. "By being in daily contact with journalists as well as CAF experts, I learn on the ground, which is a great chance for me. This is a great opportunity for us volunteers to learn how to organize big events, and to be in the field alongside seasoned people,” she added.

Wherever you go in the media areas you can find Dicka. She accomplishes the work assigned to her by CAF media officers with exemplary character, as do her fellow volunteers from all over Cameroon.

"I hope to be selected next year with the volunteers of the Total AFCON 2021, and I am already applying for this because I know that it will be for us, young Cameroonians, a great experience" she concluded.
