Al-Merreikh appoint Egyptian tactician Nabih to plot Sudanese glory

Sudanese heavyweights Al-Merreikh SC have turned to experienced Egyptian tactician Osama Nabih to mastermind their bid for domestic and continental glory next season.

The Red Devils announced the capture of Nabih on a one-year deal to replace departing Brazilian boss Heron Ricardo in the dugout.

Nabih has been out of work since leaving Egyptian giants Zamalek last March, where he briefly served as interim manager.

Now the former Egypt national team assistant embarks on a new challenge with Sudan's most decorated side.

Al-Merrikh revealed Nabih will be supported by an all-Egyptian backroom staff, including a fitness coach, goalkeeping coach and physiotherapist.

Club officials completed signing procedures in Cairo as the well-travelled coach takes up his first managerial post since 2021.

Nabih is no stranger to overseas assignments having coached Saudi outfit Al Shoalah in 2020.

Domestically, his extensive experience includes stints with the likes of Ismaily, Smouha and El Gouna in his homeland.

Nicknamed the "Egyptian strategist", Al-Merrikh will be hoping Nabih's tactical nous can guide them to a first CAF Champions League crown since 1989.
