KCCA in historical win as Ahly coach El Badry resigns

Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) gunned down African giants Al Ahly 2-0 in their Group A Day Two clash on Tuesday in Kampala to pick up their first win at the mini-league stage.

The shocking result against the record eight-time champions from Egypt, also cost head coach Hossam El Badry his job, as he tendered in his resignation moments after the match.

The only highlight in the first stanza was for KCCA goalie Charles Lukwago who saved a penalty after Habib Kavuma handled the ball in the forbidden area, denying Walid Soliman from the short distance.

Few minutes later, Mohammed Shaban took fired just over the bar from 20 yards after quick exchange of passes with midfielder Jackson Nunda.

With 10 minutes to the end of the first half, Lukwago once again reacted fastest on the goal-line to deny Phakamani Mahlambi, who was racing to score. Lukwago was not done yet as he again remained alert to tame a Marwan Mohsen header just inside the area to end the first half goalless.

In the second half, KCCA tactician Mike Mutebi brought on Lawrence Bukenya for Nunda in 46

Okello tested Mohamed El Shenawy from 25 yards but it was an easy and routine collection for the lanky Egyptian goalkeeper.

The Red Devils’ first change was in the 56th minute, Salah Mohsen replacing South African-import Phakamani Mahlambi.

The dead lock was broken in the 73

The home side remained the better side for with half chances from all angles whilst the Egyptians remained hopeful with counter attacks.

In the dying minutes, KCCA were awarded a penalty when lanky defender Amro Elsoulia brought down Derrick Nsibambi inside the goal area, and Timothy Awanyi scored from the spot to seal victory.

Reactions

Mike Mutebi (Head Coach, KCCA)

I have always said we respect Al Ahly, but today we displayed very good tactical discipline in the second half after some school boy mistakes in the first half. We should have scored more in the second half. In the end we have gauged ourselves against the very best, and I'm very satisfied."

Hossam El Badry (Head Coach, Al Ahly)

In the first half we controlled the game and created many chances, and we get penalty but didn't score. We didn't utilize our chances and our second half performance was not like first half and KCCA attacked us. We conceded the penalty and after that it was difficult.
