Namibia Futsal team coach inspired by Brave Warriors coach, Colin Benjamin at recent AFCON

With less than a month to the kick-off of the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON Morocco 2024, preparations are fully underway for the eight nations set to compete at the continental showpiece.

The fast-paced indoor football competition officially gets underway in Rabat between 11 – 21 April, with the stakes higher than ever as the podium finishers are guaranteed a place at the FIFA Futsal World Cup set to take place in September this year.

Joining the hosts in Group B are tournament debutants, Namibia who will be looking at emulating the remarkable achievement of the Brave Warriors in Cote d’Ivoire who made history by qualifying for the knockout stages of the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON for the first time in their fourth appearance.

Namibia’s Futsal national team coach, Donawald Modise says he and the team would be drawing inspiration from senior national team coach Colin Benjamin and his Brave Warriors who did the unthinkable in defeating north African giants, Tunisia enroute to a knockout spot.

“Namibia had a good display in Cote d’Ivoire. I am delighted for the coach, players and nation at large. I do feel that we also have the platform that we can also achieve the same level as the Brave Warriors. I do know the coach on a personal capacity, and we already had a few talks which were very motivational. He encouraged and advised me on how to conduct myself, how to manage the players and what it takes to be at that level and how to prepare for it”, Modise told CAFOnline.

While being drawn in the same group as tournament hosts and defending champions, Morocco, 2008 winners Libya and fellow debutants Mauritania, the coach says the game is played not played on paper, and that everyone must earn their right to a place in the knockout stages.

“Making the debut in the competition, I think we have a fair chance. All the teams that have made it to this stage have a chance. Football is not won on paper, so it is all about preparation and I am going to prepare the boys to the best of my abilities so that we enforce to reach the highest level in the group and knockout phase. I feel we have a chance to progress to the next round. We just need to prepare well” concluded the coach.

The Namibians will potentially face Mozambique, in a friendly match as part of their preparations before jetting off to Morocco in the coming days for the continental showpiece.
