Angola hopes kept alive with vital point against Cote d’Ivoire

Angola’s resilience was rewarded on Friday evening after they fought hard for a point against their more fancied opponents, Cote d’Ivoire in a tough 0-0 draw.
The southern African nation is drawn in a tough Group D consisting of two West African powerhouses, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali as well as debutants, Central African Republic.
Angola were unfortunate to lose 2-1 in their opening match to Mali and came into the clash against Cote d’Ivoire with the aim of doing well and keep their tournament hopes alive.
They did just that against a highly determined Cote d’Ivoire side who were looking at sealing their place in the quarterfinal following their commanding 6-1 victory over Central African Republic that was led by the brilliance of Alynho Haidara.
Wary of the danger posed by Haidara and his teammates, Angola came into the clash with a very disciplined approach that afforded the West Africans no room to enjoy their usual game.
The result has kept Group D open, with Cote d’Ivoire leading the pack while Mali follow in second place, with Angola having an outside chance of qualification.
The final group matches will see the two West Africans, Cote d’Ivoire and Mali battling for top spot, while Angola, who are still within the race face Central African Republic.
