This will be TP Mazembe’s second game against a South African club at the finals.
TP Mazembe in their debut tournament faced then defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, in their final group game in 2022 and endured a 4-0 loss.
TP Mazembe’s defeat against Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies at the 2022 edition is their biggest defeat at the finals.
This is the third clash at the finals between teams from the UNIFFAC region and COSAFA at the finals, in the previous two clashes all involving Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies. In addition to their 2022 win over TP Mazembe they also defeated Malabo Kings in the 2021 Semi-finals on penalties.

TP Mazembe made their debut appearance at the 2022 finals.
At the 2022 finals TP Mazembe defeated Egyptian team Wadi Degla in their opening game 1-0, they then lost 2-0 to Nigerian club Bayelsa Queens and 4-0 to Sundowns in their final group game to exit the tournament at the group stage.
Won the UNNIFAC Qualifiers to reach their second ever finals.
Went undefeated through the qualifiers (W2 D1).
Esther Dikisha was their top scorer in the qualifiers, netting in all three of their games scoring four goals.
Scored 12 goals and won two of their three games in the Qualifiers, conceded just a single goal.
UWC are the fourth different club that TP Mazembe will face at the finals.
Have won their last three domestic league titles.
TP Mazembe are coached by former Moroccan international Lamia Boumedhi who took over at their helm in March 2023.
Boumedhi is a former Moroccan international who was part of the Moroccan Women’s squad at the 2000 WAFCON in South Africa as a 16 year old.
Boumedhi has previous experience working with Wydad AC women’s team and also the Morocco U-17 and U20 Women’s national teams.
Boumedhi lead the Moroccan U-20 Women’s team to the bronze medal at the 2019 All Africa games.
University of the Western Cape
Are the second club from South Africa to qualify for the finals along with Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.
South Africa are the second nation along with Morocco to have two clubs compete in the same edition of the finals, at the 2023 edition AS FAR and SC Casablanca represented Morocco.
South Africa becomes the sixth country along with Equatorial Guinea, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria and Morocco to have multiple clubs represent them at the finals.
UWC are the third different club from the COSAFA region to qualify for the finals along with Mamelodi Sundowns and Green Buffaloes of Zambia who featured at the 2022 edition.
No team from the COSAFA region has lost their debut game at the finals. Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Vihiga Queens of Kenya in their first game at the 2021 edition, while Green Buffaloes won 4-0 against Liberian club Determine Girls in their first game in 2022.
Overall no COSAFA representative has lost their opening game at the finals. Mamelodi Sundowns have won their opening game at all three editions that they have participated in and Green Buffaloes won in 2022.
Current champions of the South African Varsity Cup, won their second title in a row on 9th August.

Won the COASAFA Qualifiers to reach Morocco despite losing their opening game.
Began their qualifiers with a 1-0 loss to Green Buffaloes of Zambia, recovered to win their next two games 3-0 and 2-1 against Ongos SC of Namibia and Herentals Queens of Zimbabwe. Recorded a 6-0 win over Young Buffaloes of Eswatini in the last four.
Defeated Gaborone United of Botswana in the final of the qualifiers to reach their first ever finals, winning the game 9-8 on penalties as the match ended 1-1 after extra time. .
Former African Women’s Footballer of the year for 2018 Thembi Kgatlana is a former player and product of the UWC Women’s Football programme.
They have been coached since 2019 by former South Africa women’s national team assistant coach Thinasonke Mbuli.
