On November 19, 2023, the Amadou Gon Coulibaly stadium receives, for the first time, the final of the CAF Champions League. The Mamelodi Sundowns won against SC Casablanca with a score of 3-0.

With the clock ticking down to the start of the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024, CAFOnline goes down memory lane with one of the tournament’s shining stars, Andile Dlamini of Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo, Cote d’Ivoire played host to the CAF Women’s Champions League Finals in November last year where Sundowns lifted the title for the second time in three years.

It was during the jubilant celebrations that the Sundown’s skipper, who kept a clean sheet throughout the competition gave an inspirational message to aspiring female footballers across the continent.

"It is essential to believe in yourself, work hard and never give up on your dreams, no matter what obstacles stand in your way. Every little effort is valuable to achieve excellence. We did it for you. We did it for the young girls who believe in us. Look at who we are. We are Mamelodi Sundowns, and we are proud of it and you can do it too” said a jubilant yet emotional Dlamini.

It was through such a message that Dlamini who was voted Goalkeeper of the Tournament, displayed the progress made in the growth and evolution of football in Africa.

The CAF Women’s Champions League takes place in Morocco between 09 – 23 November.

Sundowns are drawn in Group B with FC Masar, SC Casablanca as well as Edo Queens FC.
