TP Mazembe seal podium finish with hard-fought victory over Masar FC
TP Mazembe secured a consolation podium finish at the CAF Women’s Champions League after battling to a determined 3–1 win over Masar FC on Friday.
Last season’s champions, who narrowly missed out on the final after being edged by AS FAR in the semi-finals, responded with pride to close their campaign on a high.
Mazembe struck first in the 17th minute when Rosemary Oluwafunmilayo Adesina finished confidently following excellent work from Kgaelebane Mohlakoana.
The lead, however, lasted only three minutes. Hasnath Ubamba levelled matters in the 20th minute, connecting with an assist from Alice Ogebe to make it 1–1.
Mazembe regained control before the break. After sustained pressure, they were awarded a penalty in the 38th minute, which Marlène Kasaj converted to restore the advantage at 2–1.
Kasaj struck again deep into added time, finishing a move orchestrated once more by the influential Mohlakoana in the 45+2 minute, giving Mazembe a commanding 3–1 lead at halftime.
The second half saw both sides ring in changes, with Mazembe managing the tempo while their opponents pushed to find a way back. A moment of potential lifeline arrived in the 80th minute when Yassmin Mohamed Abdelaziz Hassanin stepped up for a penalty—but she failed to convert, leaving the score unchanged.
Mazembe remained disciplined throughout the closing stages, absorbing pressure and seeing out the match despite a late surge during five minutes of added time.
A resilient and clinical first-half performance proved enough for Mazembe to seal third place, offering redemption after their semi-final disappointment.
