Al Ittihad ready for Agadir challenge in Sfax

Libyan side Al Ittihad prepares to take on Morocco’s Hassania Agadir (HUSA) at the first leg of the 2019-20 Total CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday (14 September 2019) in Sfax, Tunisia.

The Libyans held a preparatory camp in Tunis led by new coach Ossama Alhamadi. Ittihad is missing forward Mohamed Zaabia and midfielder Abdul Ati Elabassy for organizational reasons.

Al Ittihad didn’t play any competitive or friendly games since defeating Niger’s Genadrmerie Nationale in the preliminary round, as the new technical staff opted not to organize any friendlies in their Tunis camp.

Ittihad board had earlier this month decided to sack Belgian coach Ivan Minneart despite leading the team to the CAF Confederation Cup first round. Home born Alhamadi replaced Minneart.

Meanwhile, Al Ittihad goalkeeper Mohamed Alferjani told CAFOnline.com that winning the first leg is very important for his side as they play at home, and would like to have a good result to help them in the return leg in Morocco.

“Agadir is a very tough opponent, and we know that, especially after reaching the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals last season. To go through the preliminary round was a great boast for us despite the fact that there’s no domestic league in Libya, and that we have to play away from home because of the FIFA ban”, added Alferjani.

Security officials in Tunisia allowed just 3000 supporters to attend the game, scheduled at Eltayeb Mhiri stadium in Sfax.
