Uganda thrash Burundi to go top of CECAFA U-18 Women's Championship

The Ugandan women's national under-18 football team produced a dominant performance to defeat Burundi 7-0 in the CECAFA U-18 Women's Championship.
The match took place at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Tanzania on Tuesday.
The victory sends Uganda to the top of the tournament standings on goal difference ahead of rivals Tanzania. Both teams have accumulated 9 points with one match remaining.
Uganda wasted no time asserting their authority, taking the lead after just 5 minutes courtesy of a goal from Agnes Nabukenya following some poor defending by Burundi. The score remained 1-0 to Uganda at half-time, but the floodgates opened in the second period.
Kamiyat Naigaga netted twice in quick succession to extend Uganda's advantage before further goals from Phionah Nabulime, Allen Nasaazi and a brace by Shamsha Najjuma completed the rout.
Uganda head coach Khalifa Ayub was delighted with his side's ruthless performance in front of goal. "I am happy with the way my players responded today by scoring many goals. We now lead the table going into our last match with Tanzania on Friday," he said.
In the day's earlier match, Ethiopia recorded a commanding 6-1 victory over Zanzibar.
Ethiopian striker Emush Daniel Dandamo was the star of the show, netting a hat-trick to take her tournament tally to five goals.
Teammates Mahelet Bekele and Tinbit Samuel Bassa also got on the scoresheet. Hawa Juma scored a late consolation penalty for Zanzibar.
The CECAFA U-18 Women's Championship concludes on Friday with Zanzibar facing Burundi before Uganda and Tanzania battle it out for the title.
