US Parcelles Assainies lift Senegal Women's Cup

The Union Sportive des Parcelles Assainies (USPA) team, finalists in the National Championship, won the Senegal Women's Cup final on Sunday after a 2-0 victory over Dakar Sacred Heart (DSC).

After an even opening first half, the USPA girls showed their supremacy and were rewarded with the opener thanks to a strike from Hapsatou Malado Diallo in the 53rd minute.

Dakar SC tried to bounce back into the contest, but they failed to score and saw their comeback hopes dashed when USPA sealed the winner through Pascaline Bassène in the 85th minute.

After the coveted Cup triumph, USPA coach Soukeye Cissé said he was satisfied with this title which “is only the beginning to crown this season”.

"It's our first season in the top division and winning the National Cup is just happiness," she said, adding that the objective is to achieve the domestic double title.

"We are in the final of the championship and we are far from being satisfied," said the USPA coach.

Present at the final, the president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Augustin Senghor said he was happy with the attendance noted at this final.

"It's rare to see such an influx, it shows that the mayonnaise is taking and that women's football is on the right track," added the president of the FSF indicating that the best team won.

"The USPA was better both defensively and offensively," continued President Senghor, also 1st Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The president of the FSF praised the efforts made and called on the national women's team of Senegal, which will make its return to the African Cup of Nations, to spare no effort in Morocco.

“The objective is to create surprise during this WAFCON,” said President Senghor.

Meanwhile, the USPA team that crushed Pool B of the Elite Championship will play the final for the title against Kaloack FC, leaders of Pool A in the coming days.
