The countdown to Africa’s greatest football spectacle has entered its final stretch — with just 50 days remaining before the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 kicks off on 21 December 2025.

For the first time in 37 years, Morocco will host the continent’s premier football event, promising a tournament of world-class standards and unforgettable moments.

The 35th edition of the AFCON will feature 24 teams competing in nine stadiums across six vibrant cities — Rabat, Casablanca, Fès, Tangier, Marrakech, and Agadir — with the opening match set to see the Atlas Lions face Comoros at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Morocco ready to welcome Africa

The atmosphere in Morocco is reaching fever pitch. From the bustling markets of Marrakech to the historic streets of Fès, host cities are awash with anticipation.

Fans across the continent are already planning their journeys, while the country’s impressive infrastructure — from world-class stadiums to modern transport networks — stands ready to deliver a festival of football unlike any other.

Morocco’s preparations have been praised by the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) for their efficiency and innovation.

Having successfully staged recent CAF tournaments including the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024 and the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations 2025, the Kingdom has earned widespread recognition for its organisation and hospitality.

Breaking new ground

The 2025 tournament is expected to surpass the record-breaking Côte d’Ivoire 2023 edition, which drew more than 1.5 billion global TV viewers and 2.4 billion digital streams.

The return of continental powerhouses like Egypt, Nigeria, and Cameroon — alongside emerging forces such as Cape Verde and Mauritania — promises a competition defined by drama, flair, and fierce rivalries.

Away from the pitch, Morocco’s cultural richness and passion for football will ensure that visiting fans experience more than just 90 minutes of action.

From fan zones to street festivals, the Kingdom is set to provide an all-encompassing celebration of African unity and sporting excellence.

Countdown intensifies

In recent weeks, giant countdown clocks in the six host cities have become focal points of excitement — ticking down the days until the first whistle sounds.

The final match, scheduled for 18 January 2026 in Rabat, will crown the new champions of Africa, as Côte d’Ivoire prepare to defend their title against the continent’s finest.

As Morocco edges closer to welcoming the world, the anticipation is palpable.

In just 50 days, Africa’s stars will converge under the lights of Rabat, where a new chapter in the continent’s proud football history will begin.
