Côte d’Ivoire on course for Third TotalEnergies CAF AFCON title
Côte d’Ivoire’s quest for a third TotalEnergies CAF African Cup of Nations title was given a major boost after a Sebastian Haller goal helped secure a priceless slot in the final after a semi final win over Democratic Republic of Congo on Wednesday evening at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara.
It has been years since the Ivorians picked up their first two titles in 1992 and 2015; beating the Black Stars of Ghana in the process to both titles.
In between the two title winning campaigns in 1992 and 2015; the Ivorians lost the 2006 and 2012 finals to Egypt and Zambia before bouncing back to win it in 2015.
Emersé Fae and his side, despite a topsy turvy start, have leap-frogged to a pole position and are likely to add another title to their TotalEnergies CAF AFCON haul.
Côte d’Ivoire will play Nigeria in the finals at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on February 11.
