MATCH STATS: Angola vs Egypt – TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Group B
Angola will be targeting a victory against already-qualified Egypt, hoping to secure progression to the knockout stages when the sides meet on matchday three of Group B at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.
The match will be played at the Grand Stade d’Agadir in Agadir, with kick-off at 17h00 local time (16h00 GMT).
Egypt have already progressed as Group B winners, while Angola can still qualify with a win, depending on the outcome of South Africa’s match.
This will be the third meeting between Angola and Egypt at the AFCON finals.
Egypt have won both previous AFCON meetings between the sides, claiming 2–1 victories in 1996 and 2008.
The teams first met at the AFCON finals in 1996 during the group stage, with Angola making their tournament debut. Egypt secured a 2–1 win on 15 January 1996, with Ahmed El Kass scoring twice, while Quinzinho netted Angola’s first-ever AFCON goal.
They met again in the quarter-finals of the 2008 AFCON in Kumasi, where Egypt once more won 2–1. Hosny Abdrabou converted a 21st-minute penalty for Egypt, Manucho levelled for Angola, and Amr Zaki scored the winning goal in the 36th minute. Egypt went on to successfully defend their AFCON title.
Their most recent encounters came in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The first meeting, played in Cairo on 21 September 2021, ended in a 1–0 victory for Egypt, with Mohamed Magdy converting a fifth-minute penalty.
The return fixture, played in Luanda, ended in a 2–2 draw. Angola led 2–0 through goals from Hélder Costa in the 26th minute and a penalty from M’Bala Nzola in the 36th. Egypt responded with goals from Mohamed Elneny in the 45th minute and Akram Tawfik in the 59th.
Overall, this will be the ninth meeting between the two nations. Egypt remain unbeaten, with four wins and four draws.
