Tanzania – Key Statistics

·       Drew their most recent match 1-1 against Uganda after opening the tournament with a 2-1 defeat to Nigeria.

·       Tanzania are yet to record a win at the AFCON, across 11 matches (D4 L7).

·       Failure to win would see Tanzania become the fourth nation, after Mozambique (16), Benin (15) and Guinea-Bissau (12), to fail to win any of their first 12 AFCON matches.

·       Have lost only one of their last four AFCON matches (D3), their opening game against Nigeria.

·       Have scored in both matches at the current edition; previously only achieved this in their first two matches at the 1980 tournament.

·       Have only once previously scored in all three group matches, also in 1980.

·       Their record in final group matches reads: P3 W0 D2 L1.

·       Have avoided defeat in their final group match on two occasions: a 1-1 draw with Côte d’Ivoire in 1980 and a 0-0 draw with DR Congo at the 2023 edition.

·       Their only defeat in a final group match came in 2019, a 3-0 loss to Algeria.

·       This will be Tanzania’s fourth match against North African opposition at AFCON; they lost all three previous meetings, against Egypt (2-1) in 1986, Algeria (3-0) in 2019 and Morocco in 2023.

·       The draw against Uganda saw Tanzania avoid defeat in their second group match for a second successive finals, having also drawn 1-1 with Zambia in 2023.

·       Have conceded in both matches at the current tournament; they conceded in all three matches at the 1980 and 2019 editions, with their only AFCON clean sheet coming in a 0-0 draw against DR Congo on matchday three in 2023.

·       Simon Msuva scored in the draw with Uganda, taking his tally to three AFCON goals across three different tournament editions.

·       Msuva is the first Tanzanian player to score at three separate AFCON tournaments.

·       All three of Msuva’s AFCON goals have put Tanzania ahead in matches, yet they have failed to win any of them (D2 L1).

·       He previously opened the scoring in a 3-2 defeat to Kenya in 2019, a 1-1 draw with Zambia in 2021, and again against Uganda at the current edition.

·       Msuva is now Tanzania’s all-time leading scorer at AFCON, overtaking Thuwein Waziri.

·       Should Msuva score again, he would become only the second Tanzanian player to score more than once at a single AFCON edition and the second to score in successive AFCON matches, after Waziri in 1980.

·       Msuva’s converted penalty against Uganda was Tanzania’s first-ever goal from the penalty spot at AFCON.

·       Progression to the knockout stage would mark Tanzania’s first advancement beyond the group stage, having failed to do so in 1980, 2019 and 2023.
